Purpose
Urban Rec is committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive and respectful environment where everyone can participate, connect and enjoy sport regardless of their background, identity, experience or ability.
This policy outlines Urban Rec's commitment to inclusion and the behavioural standards expected of all participants, staff, contractors, volunteers, officials and spectators.
Scope
This policy applies to:
- Participants
- Team Captains
- Referees and Officials
- Hosts
- Employees
- Contractors
- Volunteers
- Spectators
This policy applies during:
- During games, leagues, tournaments and events.
- At Urban Rec venues and facilities during event times.
- During event times of Urban Rec social activities.
- Through email, messaging, social media or other online platforms where the conduct relates to Urban Rec.
Our Commitment
Urban Rec is all about good times, great mates and fair play.
We believe sport should be fun, social and accessible to everyone, regardless of gender, age, ability, cultural background, sexuality, religion or personal identity.
We are committed to creating environments where people feel:

- Included
- Valued
We have zero tolerance for discrimination, bullying, harassment, abuse, victimisation or conduct that makes another person feel unsafe or unwelcome.
What Inclusion Means at Urban Rec
Inclusion is more than a policy. It's how we play.
We aim to:
- Treat everyone with respect and dignity.
- Celebrate diversity and different perspectives.
- Create environments where people feel they belong.
- Encourage friendly competition without compromising sportsmanship.
- Remove barriers to participation wherever reasonably possible.
- Foster a culture where people feel comfortable speaking up when something isn't right.
Gender Identity & Expression
Urban Rec supports the right of all participants to participate in a way that reflects their gender identity.
Players may join and play in the league or team that best aligns with their gender identity, subject to any sport-specific competition requirements.
Participants seeking support or guidance regarding participation options are encouraged to contact Urban Rec.
Accessibility
Urban Rec is committed to making participation as accessible as reasonably possible.
Participants who require adjustments or additional support are encouraged to contact Urban Rec prior to the commencement of a season or event.
While venue, sport and operational limitations may occasionally apply, Urban Rec will work collaboratively with participants to identify reasonable accommodations where possible.
Expected Behaviour
All members of the Urban Rec community are expected to:
- Treat others with courtesy and respect.
- Respect personal boundaries.
- Follow reasonable directions from Urban Rec staff and officials.
- Support fair play and good sportsmanship.
- Contribute to a safe and welcoming environment.
Behaviour That Doesn't Belong
The following behaviour is inconsistent with Urban Rec values and may result in disciplinary action:
- Discrimination of any kind.
- Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia or other prejudicial behaviour.
- Bullying, intimidation or harassment.
- Threatening or abusive conduct.
- Deliberate exclusion of others.
- Behaviour that creates an unsafe, hostile or unwelcoming environment.
- Excessively aggressive or overly competitive behaviour that undermines the social nature of our leagues.
Safety, Harassment & Abuse
Urban Rec is committed to providing a safe environment free from harassment, bullying, abuse, discrimination, intimidation and victimisation.
Any behaviour that threatens the safety, wellbeing, dignity or participation of another person may result in disciplinary action.

Reporting Concerns
If you experience or witness behaviour that goes against this policy, we encourage you to speak up.
Concerns can be raised with:
- A League Host
- An Urban Rec staff member
- The Compliance & Integrity Officer
- [email protected]
All reports will be taken seriously and handled fairly, respectfully and confidentially wherever possible.
Urban Rec will not tolerate retaliation against any person who raises a genuine concern in good faith.
