Code of Conduct

Purpose

Urban Rec is committed to providing safe, inclusive and enjoyable social sports experiences.
This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour expected of all participants, staff, volunteers, contractors and guests involved in Urban Rec activities.
By registering for, attending or participating in an Urban Rec league, tournament or event, you agree to comply with this Code of Conduct and all other applicable Urban Rec policies.

Scope

This Code applies to all participants, team captains, staff, volunteers, contractors, officials, spectators and guests participating in Urban Rec activities.
It applies during Urban Rec leagues, tournaments, events and scheduled social activities, as well as online interactions connected to Urban Rec.

Our Expectations

All participants are expected to:

  • Treat others with respect, courtesy and fairness.
  • Support Urban Rec's Fun First philosophy.
  • Play honestly and within the rules.
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of others.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Accept responsibility for their actions and behaviour.
  • Follow reasonable directions from League Hosts, officials and Urban Rec representatives.
Sportsmanship

Urban Rec values good sportsmanship above winning.
Participants are expected to:

  • Play fairly and honestly.
  • Respect opponents, teammates and officials.
  • Win with humility and lose with respect.
  • Avoid behaviour that negatively impacts the enjoyment of others.
  • Prioritise participant safety and enjoyment over the desire to win.

Many Urban Rec leagues incorporate elements of self-officiating and rely on participants to act with honesty and integrity.

Respecting Others

Participants must communicate respectfully and treat others with dignity at all times.
This includes:

  • Opponents.
  • Teammates.
  • League Hosts.
  • Referees and officials.
  • Spectators.
  • Venue staff.
  • Urban Rec representatives.

Participants must not engage in behaviour that is abusive, intimidating, threatening, discriminatory, harassing or otherwise inappropriate.

Aggressive Behaviour

Urban Rec has zero tolerance for violence, threats or aggressive behaviour.

Participants must not:

  • Engage in physical altercations.
  • Intentionally make unsafe physical contact.
  • Threaten or intimidate others.
  • Use offensive, abusive or threatening language.
  • Deliberately provoke or escalate conflict.
  • Behave in a manner that places others at risk.

Unless specifically stated within the sport rules, Urban Rec leagues are intended to be non-contact and participants are expected to play accordingly.

Alcohol, Drugs & Intoxication

Participants must not attend or participate in Urban Rec activities while affected by alcohol, illegal drugs or any substance that may create a risk to themselves or others.
Many Urban Rec venues are unlicensed facilities and alcohol may only be consumed where permitted by venue rules and applicable laws.
Participants remain responsible for their behaviour at all times.

Safety

Participants are expected to:

  • Follow all safety requirements.
  • Wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
  • Use equipment appropriately.
  • Play within their physical abilities.
  • Immediately report injuries, hazards or safety concerns.

No participant should pressure another person to continue playing if they feel injured, unwell or unsafe.

Reporting Concerns

Participants who experience or witness behaviour inconsistent with this Code of Conduct are encouraged to report the matter to Urban Rec.
Concerns can be raised in accordance with the Complaints Management Policy.

Breaches of the Code

Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in action under the Disciplinary Policy.
This may include:

  • Coaching or education.
  • Warnings.
  • Probation.
  • Suspension.
  • Removal from a league, event or competition.
  • Suspension or cancellation of membership.

Participants removed from Urban Rec activities due to a breach of this Code may not be eligible for a refund, credit or transfer in accordance with the Refund, Credit & Withdrawal Policy.
