Disciplinary Policy

Purpose

Urban Rec is committed to providing safe, inclusive and enjoyable social sport experiences.
This policy outlines how Urban Rec manages behavioural concerns, Code of Conduct breaches and incidents that may impact the safety, enjoyment or wellbeing of participants, staff and the wider community.

Managing Behaviour During Games

League Hosts are responsible for managing the game environment in real time.
Their role is to de-escalate situations, maintain a positive atmosphere and keep games safe and enjoyable.
League Hosts may:

  • Remind players of expectations.
  • Coach participants on appropriate behaviour.
  • Call fouls, penalties or rule infringements.
  • Pause play to address concerns.
  • Issue player warnings.
  • Temporarily remove a player from a game (Sin Bin).
  • End a game early where safety or enjoyment has been significantly impacted.

League Hosts do not issue suspensions, bans or formal disciplinary outcomes.
Any serious incident may be reported to Urban Rec for further review.

Disciplinary Outcomes

Where a participant or team breaches the Code of Conduct, Fun First Policy, Harassment, Abuse & Safeguarding Policy or any other Urban Rec policy, Urban Rec may take disciplinary action.
Depending on the circumstances, outcomes may include:

  • Coaching or education.
  • Verbal or written warnings.
  • Probation.
  • Suspension from games, leagues or events.
  • Removal from a league, tournament or event.
  • Suspension or cancellation of membership.

The outcome will depend on the seriousness of the behaviour and any previous history.

Team Conduct

Urban Rec recognises that behaviour is sometimes a team issue rather than an individual issue.
Where a team consistently demonstrates behaviour inconsistent with Urban Rec values, Urban Rec may:

  • Contact the team captain.
  • Issue a team warning.
  • Place the team on probation.
  • Remove the team from the competition.

Fun Point scores, complaints and incident reports may be considered when assessing team conduct.

Probation

Probation is a formal monitoring period applied to an individual or team.
Participants or teams on probation are expected to demonstrate immediate and sustained improvement in behaviour.
Further incidents during a probation period may result in suspension, removal or cancellation of membership.

Incident Reviews

When an incident is reported, Urban Rec will review the available information and determine whether further action is required.
This may include:

  • Reviewing League Host reports.
  • Reviewing Fun Point records.
  • Obtaining statements from those involved.
  • Obtaining statements from witnesses.
  • Reviewing any relevant evidence.

Decisions are made on the balance of probabilities, meaning Urban Rec will determine what is most likely to have occurred based on the information available.

Factors Considered

When determining an outcome, Urban Rec may consider:

  • The severity of the behaviour.
  • The impact on others.
  • Participant safety.
  • Previous incidents or warnings.
  • Whether the behaviour was intentional.
  • The participant's response and cooperation during the review process.
Appeals

Participants or team captains who wish to request a review of a disciplinary outcome may submit a written appeal to [email protected] within 7 days of being notified of the outcome.
Appeals will be reviewed by Urban Rec management or a designated review panel.
The outcome of the appeal will be communicated as soon as reasonably practicable and will be considered final.

Membership & Participation

Urban Rec is a private social sports club.
To protect the safety, wellbeing and enjoyment of our community, Urban Rec reserves the right to suspend, refuse or cancel any registration, membership or participation where it reasonably believes a person's behaviour is inconsistent with its policies, values or community expectations.
This may apply to behaviour occurring both on and off the field, including interactions with participants, staff, venues or Urban Rec representatives.

Privacy

Urban Rec manages disciplinary matters confidentially and will only share information where reasonably necessary to investigate, manage or resolve an issue.
Disciplinary outcomes will generally only be communicated to those directly involved.
